Hyundai has been making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) space with the Ioniq lineup since 2016. The 2022 Ioniq 5 was a big hit with many drivers thanks to its impressive driving range and gorgeous design. New for 2023, the Ioniq 6 enters the scene, building on that success, providing more range of up to 300 miles and faster acceleration. So, how do these two EVs compare?

Design

The Ioniq 5 boasts a futuristic design with sharp angles and a striking pixelated front grille. Its boxy shape gives it plenty of interior space, and it even has a foldable table in the back for added versatility. The Ioniq 6, on the other hand, is more of a traditional sedan with a sleeker design and a sportier feel. Both cars feature a minimalist interior, with large touchscreens and plenty of high-quality materials.

Performance

The Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 both have impressive performance specs. The Ioniq 5 can reach 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, with a range of up to 275 miles on a single charge. The Ioniq 6 is expected to be even faster, with acceleration speeds from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. It's expected to have a range of around 300 miles.

Features

Both models have many of the same standard features, including the latest safety and technology systems. However, the 2023 Ioniq 6 model has a sportier and more aerodynamic design compared to the boxy shape of the Ioniq 5. There is also more passenger legroom in the Ioniq 6 thanks to its longer wheelbase.

Price

The 2023 Ioniq 6 has a slightly higher starting price than the 2022 Ioniq 5 due to increased battery capacity, improved power and performance, and more standard features and amenities. Remember, Hyundai EV models qualify for the clean vehicle federal tax credit, which helps reduce the overall cost by up to $7,500 and makes them more affordable.
